Vietnam payment disputes: receipts, support and account recovery

A payment problem needs a precise description before anyone can investigate it. “The money is gone” may mean a pending transfer, a completed payment to the wrong recipient, a fee dispute or account takeover. This independent workflow uses MoMo and consumer guidance checked on 23 October 2026 and separates recovery of access from recovery of money.

Classify the incident without repeating the payment

First inspect transaction history from a trusted device. Record whether the payment is pending, failed, completed or unknown; do not infer failure from a frozen screen. For a purchase, also check whether the merchant recorded the order. Repeating a payment before the first status is understood can create a second problem. If you do not recognise the action at all, treat it as a security incident and contact the provider promptly. A disputed product delivery is a different matter from an unauthorised transfer, even when both involve the same amount.

MoMo complaints process

Preserve the smallest complete evidence set

Keep the transaction reference, date and time, amount, recipient, funding source and any fee shown before confirmation. For a purchase, add the invoice, product description and correspondence. Store originals privately; make redacted copies if sharing a public warning. The consumer-assistance process benefits from a coherent chronology rather than dozens of unrelated images. Write what you requested from the seller or provider and when. Do not include a password, OTP or recovery code in the evidence file that you send to anyone.

Consumer complaint handling process

Open the provider’s official support case

MoMo’s complaint process begins with a support request, followed by investigation and a response through its stated channels. The provider may request relevant information, but its guidance says it does not ask for an OTP or wallet password. Keep the case identifier and reply within the same thread where possible. If additional investigation is needed, ask for the next expected update rather than assuming a published response target means guaranteed reimbursement. Contact details should come from the application or official site, not an account that replies to your public complaint.

For a wrong recipient, contact the sending institution

A QR or bank transfer may have completed correctly to the account you approved while still being the wrong intended recipient. Explain the error to the sending provider and supply the reference. Do not threaten or publish the recipient’s personal details; the institution can advise the proper investigation route. NAPAS describes recipient verification before sending, which is why the confirmation screen matters. It does not promise automatic reversal after completion. Do not pay an additional fee to an unknown person claiming they can unlock a central recovery system.

Restore control of the number and linked accounts

If the phone is lost or access is compromised, address the mobile subscription and financial account together. MoMo uses the registered number as its account identifier. Ask the operator and provider for their official ownership-verification process; a new SIM or handset does not by itself settle access to a financial account. Review linked funding sources and appropriate transaction limits after control is restored. Test essential communications and inspect recent history before resuming ordinary payments. Avoid using another person’s wallet as a shortcut because it complicates ownership and future evidence.

Escalate the unresolved consumer issue separately

A seller may remain in dispute even after the payment status is confirmed. Summarise the contractual promise, the actual result, your earlier complaint and the remedy sought. The Vietnam Competition Commission describes consumer-assistance handling and can direct an issue through the appropriate process. This does not replace urgent notification of fraud to the financial provider, and it does not guarantee a court-like decision. Keep each process’s case number separate so a payment investigation is not confused with a service-delivery complaint. Close the record only after the outcome is clear.

Practical checklist

  • Check status before making a second payment.
  • Keep one chronology with transaction and support references.
  • Separate bank transfer, wallet transfer, withdrawal and purchase.
  • Use official support and never provide an OTP or password.
  • Contact the mobile operator when control of the number is affected.
  • Escalate an unresolved consumer dispute with the earlier complaint attached.

Frequently asked questions

Does a support target mean my money will return by that time?

No. A response or processing target is different from a guaranteed outcome. Complex cases can require further investigation.

Can the recipient name prove a seller delivered the goods?

No. It helps identify the payment destination. Delivery and contractual performance require their own evidence.

Should I use a recovery service found in a comment?

Do not trust an unsolicited recovery offer. Contact the actual provider through its official channel and reject demands for credentials or a new transfer to release funds.
