MoMo is an application with several payment channels, so one headline saying “free” cannot describe every action. This independent guide separates wallet balance, outgoing limits, linked-bank withdrawals and QR transfers. It uses provider information checked on 23 October 2026 and does not recommend borrowing, investing or depositing a particular amount.
Check identity and account readiness first
MoMo identifies an account by its registered telephone number. Its biometric-verification FAQ states that transactions are suspended without the required verification from 1 January 2025. Complete account checks only through the genuine application and official support. A visitor should not assume that owning a local SIM alone satisfies every identity or linked-bank requirement. Inspect the status shown in the account before attempting to receive funds. Do not pay an intermediary to rent or “unlock” another person’s verified wallet; account ownership and recovery would remain unsafe.
Read balance and daily limits separately
For an account verified through a bank card or account, the cited daily-limit FAQ lists a maximum stored balance of VND 200 million and a maximum VND 50 million per day for withdrawal or payment. These are different measures: balance is money held at one moment, while a daily limit counts a class of outgoing activity. Top-up channels have their own limits. These published figures do not override stricter account, identification or transaction controls. Check the application’s remaining allowance before an important payment and do not treat a large balance as permission to send it all immediately.
Understand linked-bank withdrawal allowances
MoMo’s linked-bank withdrawal FAQ describes a free monthly withdrawal amount up to VND 30 million and a minimum withdrawal of VND 50000. A monthly free allowance is not the same as an unlimited free service. Before exceeding it, inspect the current fee displayed for the withdrawal and check how earlier transactions have used the allowance. The FAQ states 0.5% of the transaction amount once monthly withdrawals exceed VND 30 million and 1% once they exceed VND 100 million. Check the final quote for a transaction crossing a threshold. Keep the quote and the completed receipt if the fee charged differs from what was displayed.
Do not reuse that allowance for QR transfers
MoMo’s direct-QR transfer schedule to domestic banks has a separate VND 15 million monthly free threshold. Above it, the published schedule uses fixed and percentage components, with a further tier above VND 50 million. That is not the linked-bank withdrawal allowance. Because the taxable or chargeable portion depends on the accumulated amount and transaction channel, use the final quote rather than applying a remembered percentage to every transfer. A wallet-to-wallet payment, bank withdrawal and QR bank transfer should occupy different rows in your personal cost comparison.
Control linked funding and authentication
MoMo advises setting daily limits for linked services according to actual needs and not sharing credentials. Review which funding source is selected at checkout; a displayed wallet balance does not necessarily describe every linked service. Keep recovery details current and inspect registered device or security settings available in the application. Use a device passcode that another person cannot easily guess. Biometric convenience does not justify handing an unlocked phone to an unknown helper. Never read an OTP aloud to a caller claiming to reverse a fee or remove a restriction.
Resolve a fee or access problem with evidence
Open a support request from the transaction or official help channel and describe the exact action, amount, time, funding source and quoted fee. MoMo’s complaint procedure distinguishes receipt of the request, investigation and a response; more complex cases can need additional time. Do not interpret a support response target as a guaranteed refund deadline. For an unexplained charge, retain both the quote and receipt. For suspected unauthorised access, prioritise securing the account and notifying the provider before debating the commercial dispute with a seller.
Comparison and scope
| Measure | Provider figure checked | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Stored balance | VND 200 m maximum | Bank-verified account in cited daily-limit FAQ. |
| Withdrawal/payment | VND 50 m per day | Separate from balance and other channel limits. |
| Linked-bank withdrawal | VND 30 m/month free allowance | Minimum VND 50000; inspect excess fee. |
| Direct QR transfer to domestic bank | VND 15 m/month free threshold | Different fee tiers from linked-bank withdrawal. |
Practical checklist
- Verify the account status before asking anyone to send funds.
- Identify the exact channel and funding source at checkout.
- Check remaining daily allowance and monthly free quota separately.
- Read the displayed fee before authorising an amount above a threshold.
- Set linked-service limits appropriate to ordinary spending.
- Keep support evidence privately and never include a password or OTP.
Frequently asked questions
Is the wallet balance limit a daily spending allowance?
No. It measures stored funds at one moment. Payment, withdrawal and top-up activity have separate limits and may be restricted by account status.
Is the VND 30 million free allowance valid for every transfer?
No. The cited allowance concerns linked-bank withdrawals. Direct QR transfers to domestic banks use a different published schedule.
Can customer support ask for my OTP?
MoMo’s official complaint guidance says support does not ask for the OTP or wallet password. End such a request and contact the provider independently.
